In 2005, Fred incorporated The Fred Waring Foundation, Inc., a Delaware nonprofit corporation. This initiative will not only help him continue his mission, but also allow him to expand his vision to include the construction of a new center and manufacturing facility using Cambodia's natural resources to create products for export. The plan is to offer to employ the children when they are forced to leave the orphanages at age 18, so that they can learn a trade, earn wages, have decent housing and hope for a great future..
Since 2001, Fred has made 3 to 4 trips per year to Cambodia and each time brings donations of vitamins from GNC and medicines from New York doctors. The Waring Family has been donating toys, sporting goods, school supplies, and crafts. When in Cambodia, large purchases of food supplies are made including rice, fish and fresh fruits. The foods are personally delivered to the orphanages by Fred. The children have had a definite improvement in the quality of life and happiness due to better diets and living conditions.
Fred Waring III is the grandson of the big band-leader, Congressional Gold Medal recipient, and inventor of the Waring Blender, Fred Waring. Fred, his wife Tracey, and daughters Jade and Violet reside in Woodstock, NY, where they still await approval for adopting Chanty, whom Fred brought to the United States from the Boray Orphanage in desperate need of medical care not available in Cambodia.
Violet's Story
Five years ago, Fred and his wife Tracey stood in their Ulster County, New York, home looking at a photo of a small baby girl a world away. The day had come when they were finally approved to adopt a child from Cambodia. Holding the photo in shaking hands, they looked upon their daughter for the first time and instantly fell in love. They named her Violet. And at that moment, she became theirs: Violet Chantrea Waring.
As the day of her arrival approached, they were exhilarated with anticipation, only to be thrown into despair by the September 11th terrorist attacks that grounded all international flights. A few months later a second blow was dealt when the U.S. government placed a moratorium on all Cambodian adoptions due to pervasive government corruption. Still, Fred and Tracey held out hope that one day they would bring Violet home.
